FOURTH GRADE TEACHER / FACILITATOR
SONYA BONAR
My name is Sonya Bonar, and I am the fourth grade teacher/facilitator. I have a Bachelor’s in Nutrition and Dietetics from Virginia Tech, and have worked as a Registered Dietitian off and on while raising and homeschooling 8 children. My husband Brian and I just celebrated 30 years of marriage!
I discovered The Academy of Snohomish in 2021 when my 15 year old wanted to find a speech and debate club. I was immediately impressed with everyone I met. Everyone at the school is truly invested in helping the students succeed. I began to search out alternatives to homeschool for my youngest two boys. I toured the Academy and by the end of the week I had accepted a job!
My teaching experience comes from homeschooling my own children for 21 years. My oldest daughter graduated from WSU with a Bachelor in Communications and worked as a newspaper reporter until the Lord called her home in 2018. My oldest son is a chemist in a lab, and also graduated from WSU. My daughter and her twin brother both did running start and have found jobs that fit their gifts. As for the last four, we don’t know yet what the Lord has planned!
In my “spare time,” I love to write. I have written a memoir to honor my daughter. I’d love to share more about that to whomever is interested. I’m also an avid runner.
Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
